Section:  Creative stories / Travelling by plane with a baby.

Everyone looks forward to taking a vacation, but it's no easy task when you have a young child in tow, especially when traveling by plane. How will your child bear the flight? Will he/she be scared? Fussy? What if there's turbulence? How will the child handle the change in air pressure? You want to be as prepared as possible before you get on the flight. Here are some tips to help you out:

A lot of children are afraid of heights. Try and get your child a seat away from the window;out of sight, out of mind. Tell your child about a positive experience you've had with flying (feel free to make one up if you don't have one to share). Be upbeat and turn the flight into an exciting adventure. If you yourself are afraid of flying, do your best to remain calm; kids can sense fear. Finally, tell your child about the people that he will meet on board. Introduce the plane’s crew and stress how special they are.

May the stewardess be a fairy, and the captain be a magician or simply a superman!

Air sickness is another major concern for parents. While you can't completely prevent air sickness, you can alleviate the symptoms by bringing some anti-nausea medicine with you. Consult your pediatrician about what medicine is best for your child. Also, pack some hard candies and water - they can aid with nausea and the change in air pressure on little ones' ears. If your child feels nauseous, have him/her lay down and instruct him/her to take deep breaths. You may also want to bring a hand fan to provide some air.

Entertaining kids during the flight may be a difficult task. Kids often get excited about flying and are unable to sleep on the plane. You want to keep the child stimulated, but quiet and you don't want to disturb the other passengers. Books and coloring books are great distractions, but can get old pretty quickly - you want something unique that will hold the child's attention for awhile.

Try bringing some Orange Elephant Window Paints! The paints come in controlled, squeezeable tubes that are fun, clean and easy to use - no fuss and no muss! The kits are compact and fit easily into carry-on luggage - at the end of the flight, your child has a clever and creative craft.

The time will fly by when you play with Orange Elephant products!

Some parents opt to entertain their kids with DVDs and game systems. This kind of entertainment may wear your children out and the act of flying itself has a tendency to induce fatigue. You don't want your kids to arrive at their destination totally exhausted. It's best to keep their minds active and stimulated.

Modeling is a fantastic way to stay engaged on a long flight. Orange Elephant modeling dough and ball-clay do not stick to surfaces or hands. What better way to commemorate a great plane ride than with a token that you've modeled on board? Our modeling sets will not only help you pass the time, but give you something great to show for it!

Remember: more often than not, you are taking your child to a place he/she has never been before.

You want to take the time to show them the wonders of the world around them! Bring atlases and maps and educate your children about the place you are visiting. Show them photos, tell them about the history of your vacation spot and expose them to local customs and food.

Have a safe trip and enjoy your vacation!
